A Note to the Families

As I researched and wrote about the individuals on the Genesee County Honor Roll, I tried my best to present, to whatever extent is possible, an accurate portrayal of each person. Nonetheless, no mere collection of facts and figures retrieved from the recorded past can capture a person’s nature or personality, dreams or ambitions, or any of the other many qualities that together comprise the human being that each of these individuals was.

Hints of those qualities often can be found, however, in memories and memorabilia passed down through the generations: photos, letters, diaries, oral histories, and more. It’s my sincere hope that descendants of the families and friends of the individuals profiled here might share any additional information or documentation that would help create fuller and more complete portrayals.

Also, to descendants, researchers, and other readers, I want to apologize in advance for any and all errors, whether typographical or factual, that I have committed while creating this work. Despite my best efforts, there surely are some. Piecing history together from scattered bits of information often requires educated guessing, and always requires obsessive attention to detail and accuracy. If you notice instances in which I have failed on either count, please contact me and I will make corrections.
